Comic-Con 2013: Kick-Ass 2 Hall H Panel

If there's anything comic book fans can appreciate, it's beings with supernatural abilities. The only thing cooler than that? Regular people "kick-ass" enough to be superheroes (a la Batman, except teenagers and kinda broke).

Enter the cast for Kick Ass 2. Most were there and I was star-struck.

Aaron Taylor-Johnson (looking all buff and grown) with Christopher Mintz-Plasse (looking all cool and fun). Newbies, Lindy Booth, John Leguizamo, and Donald Faisonstrolled on stage. And even Director Jeff Wadlow was there with Mark Millar and John Romita, Jr., the Kick-Ass comic book writers. And even though we missed "Hit Girl," Chloe Grace Moretz visited via satellite and chatted it up for a few. We did miss Jim Carrey, though. (Though Carrey acted …

Comic-Con 2013: Veronica Mars Hall H Panel

"That might play with the masses, but underneath that angry young woman shell, there's a slightly less angry young woman who's just dying to bake me something. You're a marshmallow, Veronica Mars. A twinkie! " -- Wallace, Veronica Mars

Kickstarter campaigns are the epitome of “by the people, for the people.” Imagine my excitement when WE the people -- all 91,585 of us -- brought back Veronica Mars. Hell, yes.

Being in Hall H at Comic-Con was surreal. The place is HUGE and then to be a few feet away from Rob Thomas, the creator of our generation's Nancy Drew, and then hanging out with Kristen Bell and the rest of the Neptune crew in the flesh was magical. They were all there -- Enrico Colantoni (Veronica's dad), Percy Daggs III (the BFF), Ryan Ha…

Comic-Con 2013: The World's End Hall H Panel

Picture this: You’re hanging out at your house with a few of your closest friends. The lights are kind of dim and there's a TV playing some random stuff. Everyone's laughing and it's a great time.

That’s exactly what it was like being at the Comic-Con panel for The World's End . Except the close friends were Chris Hardwick (Panel Moderator), Edgar Wright (Director), Simon Pegg (Star) and Nick Frost (Co-Star). And the TV in the background was a huge screen playing various montage tributes to Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz. It was like all of us in the audience -- more than 500 in attendance -- were invited to this dinner party and we were just one of the guys.

The trailer for TWE breaks the plot down clearly: Five friends reunite in their hom…

Dark Horse Announces New Halo Comic Series

Great news, Spartans -- 343 Studios' Frank O'Connor has announced that Dark Horse comics is planning on publishing an all-new Halo comic series, set to release later this year. The series will be titled Halo: Escalation.

The comic is set to feature Captain Lasky, Spartan Palmer, and additional series favorites. If you're looking for some new canon, look no further than Halo: Escalation -- written by Halo 4 lead writer Chris Schlerf, I'm sure the narrative will be a real fan-pleaser. Spike Lee's Oldboy at SDCC!

Oldboy, director Spike Lee's remake of the classic South Korean revenge thriller, had quite the presence at this year's convention, celebrating the film's impending release with a spirited regalia of over a dozen girls wearing traditional South Korean garb and twirling yellow umbrellas bearing the film's logo and tagline.

Set to release on October 25th in theaters across the country, Oldboy tells the story of an advertising executive (played by No Country For Old Men's Josh Brolin) who, for no apparent reason, is abruptly kidnapped and subsequently held for twenty years in a hotel room. After being released (again for no apparent reason), he decides it's high time to find out who stole twenty years from him and exact his revenge. Much of th…

The Walking Dead Escape

Hello to all!

Well, I didn't survive my escape from the slowly becoming infected Petco Park in San Diego Friday.

The event is flexible enough that you can be one of three roles: Survivor, Zombie, or Spectator. I participated as a survivor, meaning I was running the course while attempting to run away from zombies.

You start with a group of approximately 50 people, and you're briefed by a drill-seargent type who asks you to navigate the passageways of the park to get to the safe zone.

From there, you're immediately bombarded by people acting as zombies. Chasing you, popping up around corners, and generally taking swipes at you as you run through.

Now when I say 'run', I mean exactly that. You are RUNNING. There are many participants who brin…

Your'e Next Convention Photos

You're Next, the upcoming Animal-Mask-Wearing-Axe-Murderer slasher flick (the feel good hit of the summer, I'm sure) has been causing quite the stir at Comic-con, a little over a month prior to its scheduled release on August 23rd. From panel, to screening, to signing, members of the cast and crew, sometimes wearing the movies signature fox mask, have been very busy promoting the upcoming film. So far, surprisingly, there has been very little blood. We're guessing that's going to change when the movie comes out.

Check out photos from the screening, panel, and signing below!

You're Next Poster Revealed

Great news for horror fans: Lionsgate films has released a poster (below) for their upcoming slasher flick entitled You're Next, which features animal-masked, ax-wielding murderers, supposedly "waiting, ready for you behind every door." Well now doesn't that sound just dandy! Supposedly, the Davison family reunion is going to be a bit bloodier than they anticipated (sounds like a pretty normal family reunion to me).

The press release asks, cryptically: "could you survive if there was no where to hide?" My answer is a resounding "NO!", but who knows what kinds of tricks those Davisons have up their sleeves.

The poster, which looks pretty great, features the layout of a home in the shape of a fox's head. Going out on a limb here, but maybe the…

LEGO MOVIE Poster Revealed at SDCC

Excitement mounts for the upcoming LEGO MOVIE as a new poster (below) for the film has been released to coincide with this year's Comic-Con.

The poster features Emmet, an ordinary, perfectly average LEGO figure mistakenly identified as the world's only hope and savior. Voiced by Chris Pratt, Emmet is joined by a group of new friends on a quest to stop a super villain. Will Ferrell, Morgan Freeman, Liam Neeson, Will Arnett, Elizabeth Banks, Nick Offerman and Alison Brie were cast alongside Pratt. The first feature length LEFO film of all time, this is definitely going to be fun to check out when it hits theaters on February 14th of next year.

Hell on Wheels Locomotive at SDCC

Hell on Wheels Fans!

Attendees to the 2013 San Diego Comic Con will have the opportunity to travel the city in 19th century style aboard the steam locomotive from HELL ON WHEELS, courtesy of Entertainment One. Or, at least a San Diego Transit Trolley wrapped to evoke the earlier, pre-electric form of transportation at the center of the hit AMC-TV series. Working in conjunction with San Diego Transit, Entertainment One U.S.'s creative services department devised show-specific eye-catching full-color artwork to best re-create a little piece of the Old West in the New West.

The HELL ON WHEELS locomotive will steam its way into town for SDCC, and will be on the rails until August 4. Aside from generating buzz for the series, which is produced…

Get ready for action at this year's Comic-Con. Summit Entertainment has announced that it will debut ESCAPE PLAN at this year's convention. The film, starring Arnold Schwarzenegger and Sylvestor Stallone, has the pair of action stars escaping from the world's highest security prison. Passes will be distributed online, at the Summit Booth on the convention floor, and at a gateway near the screen location on the evening of event. Walking Dead Escape Coming to Comic-Con

It looks like things are going to be getting a little creepy -- again -- at this year's Comic-Con. AMC has paired up with Skybound, Robert Kirkman's Image Comics import, and Ruckus Sports for the second annual unveiling of the Walking Dead Escape. If you missed it last year, the Escape is a zombie-themed obstacle course set up at Petco Park during Comic-Con, meant to allow fans the opportunity to live out their fantasies from the Walking Dead series and graphic novels.

The course will be open July 19th and 20th from 5pm to 10pm. Survivors can climb, crawl and slide their way through recognizable Walking Dead locales while avoiding confrontation with hordes of undead Walkers. It is not a race, nor is it timed -- the goal of the course is for…

The foundation will also allow members of the media and celebrities to use chairs, computers, and other props from the bridge for interviews, including a replica of the captains chair famously used by Captain Picard during the seven year run of The Next Generation.

New Starship Foundation CEO Huston Huddleston had the following to say:

“We’re really exci…

Why deodorant is so important at convention events....

Since Comic-con is officially less than two weeks away, I wanted to take a moment and address the importance of hygiene. If you're not aware of it already, Comic Con International in San Diego is one of the largest comic conventions. Population last year was over 130,000 and that's not even counting the people outside just walking around. What does this mean? Expect to be moving around like a cow in a herd in certain popular areas like the WB booth when there's a celebrity signing (or any booth for that matter). Therefore, be courteous to your fellow attendees and wear some deodorant if you know you might prespire a little too much. Heck bring gum in case you're camping.

Also keep in mind, we're all here to have some fun and celebrate comi…

New Panel Venue: Lyceum Theatre

Comic-Con International has always offered panels in locations away from the convention center, like the Indigo Ballroom. Now they've taken it another step further and added the Lyceum Theatre at the Horton Plaza. This venue is being called more intimate than other rooms and requries tickets as well. That's right, no lining up for hours! Here's what you need to know according to CCI: Ticket Information:

Entry to the Lyceum requires a separate ticket and a wristband, plus your Comic-Con 2013 badge. Drawings for panel entry tickets at the Lyceum Theatre will be held at 9:00 AM in the Autograph Area (upstairs in the Sails Pavilion) on Friday and Saturday morning. Each winner will receive entry for two into the Lyceum Theatre at Horton Plaza. (Pl…
